New Looks @ The Richland Library

Since we are your window on the world we thought it appropriate to show you other windows throughout the world - check these photos out next time you drop by the circulation desk.

This theme is now painted on our walls and reinforced by our service to the community.
In this photo of the library's circulation desk, you can see Library Director Amy Davis hard at work and some folks in the background using the Internet. Behind her you will notice that the stacks have been moved to make more open space in the library for study and sharing. We love to support all individuals in our community who are interested in lifelong learning!

These pictures reflect just a few of the changes made! We are Your Window to the World! Therefore to make the library area more inviting we have shifted furniture, painted walls, decorated the old, dressed up with some new, created our own cafe - The Page Break featuring gourmet coffee only $1 a cup and the possibilities for more are endless. We invite you to rediscover The Richland Community Library!

Bobby: The Therapy Dog

This summer in addition to discovering bugs, we also got a visit from a very special dog. Here you can see Bobby - The Therapy Dog. The children got a chance to read to Bobby and learn more about the role of therapy dogs play in the lives of individuals and our community as a whole. To learn more about Therapy Dogs please check out the website of Therapy Dogs International http://www.tdi-dog.org/briefhistory.html and to learn more about the positive impact of children reading to dogs check out Tail Wagging Tutors http://www.tdi-dog.org/childrenreadingtodogs.htm

A Summer of Buggin' Around

This Summer our the Children's Reading Club theme was Catch The Reading Bug @ Your Library! In keeping with this theme all summer log we did projects creating bugs. Some on paper, others were additions to bike helmets (notice the spots and antenna) while others created red bowling balls into the biggest lady bugs you've ever seen. (Thanks Cedar Lanes!) We also read The Grouchy Lady Bug by Eric Carle. To discover more information on bugs check out this website. http://www.pasummerreading.org/reading_bug/index.html

Book Festival Influences Our World

Before we can reveal all the changes we've made to our library. We would like to share with you some of the experiences that have changed us and have influenced our "Window to the World."
On Saturday Sept. 29, 2007, Richland Communtiy Library Director - Amy Davis and Library Staff Member - Beth Leffler attended The National Book Festival. (Beth is pictured above with the map).
The event is sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush and is held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th streets. During the festivities, Amy & Beth got 5 different authors to autograph titles which were later added to the library's collection and are available for checkout now!
